The Internet is the premier virtual real estate of all times. It is spawning more millionaires that any other phenomenon in history. One of the more pristine pieces of virtual real estate you can find online is Seth Godin‘ creation with the funny name “squidoo”. Squidoo is a true web 2.0 system that allows you to create web pages on the go, and promote them for maximum profit. All of this is free. In this article, I want to share some of what I learned about how to make money online with squidoo

To begin, you must sign up for a free squidoo account. Getting a squidoo account is free, but if you choose to join via someone else’s link, they will earn a commission later from your efforts. Like everything else however, squido can be tweaked and primed to make you extra money if you know the tips and secrets of getting the best from it. Again, like most other things in life, those who have learned how to really optimize their squidoo pages make the most money. Search engines love squidoo and so do the thousands of marketers who have already built over 1 million lens.

So how do you make money with squidoo? To begin with, you must build lenses that are worth reading. No one will read a boring web page unless they are extremely motivated; like having a gun to their heads. You will want to make your web page with short paragraphs, some easy graphics, and smooth writing that is easy to read. Bold headings with colors with help too. You may be very passionate about your subject but do bear in mind that you still must sell your ideas to your reader if you want to make money online with squidoo.

To help you find the right ideas for your lens, and to compete effectively with all the other lenses online, you can do a little research. Here is an idea for that. Go to a search engine and look for “google adwords tool”. Use this tool to search for the phrase ” or “learn to”. The idea is to find out what people are searching for online. You want to know their problems, and how you can help them solve these problems. When I did this simple research, I found some interesting ideas for lens. Love to cook? Now that you have your idea for a lens, and you have crafted a good-looking page, you are ready to learn how to actually make money online with that squidoo lens. Avoid the mistake of only putting in a few tags. Tags are the squidoo equivalent of keywords. You are allowed 40 of them. Use them all! Try to use a few rare ones that do not have a lot of competition. Also, you will want to exercise ultimate control over all the out-going links from your lens. If there are 25 out-going links, make sure that at least 20 of them belong to you.

A good idea for promoting your lens is to rate other people’s lenses, and ask them to rate yours. You can do this in their feedback form. Some will do it, and some will not, but if you get 10 feeback, those can push you a long way up the search engines, and into the realm of money-making squidoo lenses. Remember that squidoo will have some links on your lens, such as adsense. Do not rely on them to make money, but if you gain from it, then I am happy for you. You can also control how much of this money that you donate back to charity. This is your call.

Promote your lens. There are just too many places to promote your link, so I will not be able to list every one of them here. Here are a few places that are effective in spreading the word about your lens. Use squidutils.com to ping your lens, check for back links, and to see if you are missing anything. You can then bookmark your lens at places like stumbleupon, digg, del.ici.ous and other social bookmarkers. To bookmark your lens at over 20 plus social sites for free, use onlywire.com. It will save you a lot of work in the future.

One of the many ways you can make money online is by seriously promoting residual income programs. Residual income programs are programs like GDI, SFI, Wealthy Affiliate, and empowerism, that pay you a monthly income for work done one time. Usually you have to remain a paid member of these programs to make money with them. The idea however is still a good one, and if you are genuinely interested in their programs, you can make extra money online from promoting them.

The truth is, you can find a few lucrative programs online that lend themselves readily to residual monthly income. Programs such as GDI, wealthy affiliate, SFI, and others are genuine money-makers that will create a nice cash flow for you right from your squidoo lens. Do not forget that squidoo is free and so are all of the tools I have just discussed.
